COMING BACK TO THE LIGHT

There are some really special people in this world… David Kowalski is one of them. Special for what he is as a person and as an artist. The ability of seeing the unnoticed and transforming the common things into something unique are probably his main gifts as a photographer. As a sculptor, his work impresses by the originality of the matter, the shapes, the lively spirit. Each piece is the resurrection of something old and lost… “telluric phoenixes” of rusty metal, leather, wood and stone, being reborn from the junkyard and debris. As a writer and poet, he is still someone to be revealed and discovered.
Life put a treacherous trap in his way, a serious disease that could have vanquished him as it does with so many. But his inner strength allowed him to remain in this side of light… Stay on this side, David! There are thousands of images that wait to be capture by your eyes and soul, dozens of sculptures waiting to born from your masterful hands... and life goes on walking with you, hand in hand.
Below is the poem Deep Insight, some images by David Kowalski and a few by me (from the series Premeditated Mistakes).

DEEP INSIGHT

Without cuts, wounds or scars
Penetrating the deep surface of beauty
Caressing the ineffable fugacity of light
The speed of sound in the musical sights
Suddenly made still by a silent tune of the eyes

A home close to the sky, sculpted by rusty hands
Of life in quest to see the unnoticed unseen
Colourful clouds roofing the inhabitable home
Green blue matrix of endless rainbows
Confluent in the mouth of wonder

Visions from the windows within the mind
Stories in the light of the dawn within the eyes
Making the tree of dreams glowing stronger
High as the sun, bright as the stars
Crossing the night, hands in hands with the universe

To see deeper is to be seen by the unseen
To see wider is to belong from the deep to beyond
Infinite arms embracing infinite roads as one
Infinite time embracing finite lives as eternal
Voyages in time and space in the ship of deep insight...

EMBRACING THE ROAD

Step by step the horizon reveals his faces
To the eager tireless walker
From above the Moon presents her riddles
To the penetrating wit of the sun:
Who is walking on that road?
The ever-changing horizon
Or the moving walker?

The sun answers widely using more than words
He opens his long sunbeam arms
Waves his magic fingers
Before the static Moon’s eyes
And draw with light the footprints
Yet to print in the dust of the road
What a perfect way to embrace life!

In spite of all his brightness and transparency
The sun also has his riddles, his secret corners
And his wise words and silences
Tell me, white lady of the night
Who leads the road to its destination?
The crude inanimate dusty ground
Or the untamable will of the walker?

The Moon beheld the sun in his eyes
Allowing her veil to fall without restrains
Released her long moonlight hair
Till it touched the dusty ground
As a smooth carpet of light
Along the road tangled they go
Moonlight and sunlight embracing the road.

And the tireless walker on he goes
Moving with the horizon
Hand in hand with life
The bird that follows by his side
Is his faithful companion
Together they embrace the road and follow the journey
This road is their common path across the riddles of life…

NEW ANCIENT DREAMER

ETERNAL AS A DREAM

I’m six, I’m sixteen, I’m sixty, I’m six hundred
And have millenniums to live
In a paper wing, a sand castle, a leaf of grass
All the ephemeral things there are.
I’ll live more than life allows
Much more than life can last
I’ll live so exceedingly that nothing will have an end
I’ll live so deeply, so high, so near and so far
Until all the voyages are made complete
Here, there, within and beyond…

You are the newborn
You are the ancient dreamer
You’re a grain of sand, a drop of water
The blowing wind, the path on the clouds
An invisible hand with dancing petals
You close my eyes to see the new world within
I open my eyes to find myself in your genesis
My eyes are sunflowers greeting the sun
You open my eyes to see the new day
I close my eyes and mingle
Amongst the wonders of creation
Here, there, within and beyond…
